In this free, public talk, Hal Levin will mark the 40th anniversary of his pursuit of knowledge about how to make healthy houses and healthy buildings with a presentation at the Santa Cruz Public Library, 224 Church Street, upstairs meeting room where the pursuit began in April 1978.
The talk will identify the most important indoor pollutants and their sources and discuss the benefits of controlling the sources. The topics will range from materials used for construction to household cleaning and personal care products that can emit pollutants into indoor air. Levin will also discuss the sources of microbial contamination of the indoor environment. Guests will be invited to ask questions about their own concerns. Hal Levin is widely recognized for his work on indoor air quality and has consulted to the U.S, EPA, the World Health Organization, the California Energy Commission, and the governments of Queensland, Australa. He is a Fellow of ASHRAE, ASTM, and the international Academy of Indoor Air Science. He has been a lecturer and researcher at UC Berkeley in the College of Environmental Design andat UC Santa Cruz in the Board of Studies in Environmental Studies. He has been a scientist at UC’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and has published more than 3500 pages in journals, newsletters, book chapters, and conference proceedings. In addition, Levin designed and built some of the earliest passive solar houses in Santa Cruz County during the 1970s.
